The Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 is one of the most user-friendly super-shoes on the market. Whether you’re running a sub-3:00 min/km pace or a 5:30 min pace, the firm PWRRUN PB midsole base is cushioned and supportive enough for both scenarios. Unlike many carbon-plated racers that have sacrificed stability for a lighter and bouncier ride, Saucony opts for a safe and conservative design that meets the needs of many. While there’s a new footbed made of the softer PWRRUN HG on top, it’s the firmer base that does most of the heavy lifting. Like the Endorphin Pro 4, the Endorphin Pro 5 sticks with a solid heel core to maintain its stable character.

The new upper is the perfect example of messing with something that wasn’t broken. While most of the breathable upper has an accommodating forefoot and toe box, the heel collar design leaves a lot to be desired. For reasons known only to Saucony, the designers have added a stiff synthetic backing to the Achilles lip and the eyestay. This update introduces the risk of chafing the skin, a problem any racer can do without.
